Jacqui Smith

Jacqui is a member of the British Labour Party. She was the Member of Parliament for Redditch from 1997 until 2010, the first female Home Secretary and the third woman to hold one of the Great Offices of State, after Margaret Thatcher (Prime Minister) and Margaret Beckett (Foreign Secretary).
Smith entered the Government in July 1999 as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Education and Employment, working with the Minister for School Standards Estelle Morris. She then held the positions of Minister of State at the Department of Health, Government’s deputy Minister for Women, Government’s Chief Whip, and Home Secretary.

Jacqui left Parliament in 2010 and now works as a consultant, trainer, coach and broadcaster. She has carried out consultancy work with a range of UK and international clients. She has advised and trained politicians and senior officials in Jordan, Iraq, Tanzania, Egypt and Nigeria. She is a qualified executive coach with clients in the public, voluntary and private sectors. Jacqui is part of the GPG team working with the parliament and political parties in Jordan.
