Jacqui is a member of the British Labour Party. Following a teaching career, she was elected MP for Redditch between 1997 and 2010 and served as a Minister for ten years in the Education, Health, Industry and Equality portfolios and in the Cabinet as Chief Whip and the UK’s first female Home Secretary.
Jacqui left Parliament in 2010. She is now the Chair of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust – running acute hospital services in Birmingham including the internationally recognised Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She is also Chair of the Sandwell Children’s Trust providing social care services to vulnerable children.
She has carried out consultancy work with a range of UK and international clients and is a well-respected political commentator with her own weekly podcast. She has advised and trained politicians and senior officials in Jordan, Iraq, Tanzania, Egypt and Nigeria. She is a qualified executive coach with clients in the public, voluntary and private sectors.
