Zafran joined GPG in December 2017 as the Project and Policy Development Manager. His main focus is on policy and projects in the Middle and East and North Africa region.
Prior to joining GPG, Zafran led on the first ever parliamentary inquiry launched by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the British Council, examining the role of soft power interventions towards ‘Building Young People’s Resilience to Violent Extremism in the Middle East and North Africa’. As the secretariat to the sub-committee, he was responsible for collating expert evidence, forming briefing papers, research and policy.
Zafran also spent under one year in Saudi Arabia with the British Council working on Cultural Arts and Education programmes, and then three years in Tunisia, leading on the British Council’s UK and North Africa relations, setting in stone the annual Hammamet Conference Series which seeks to builds trust and understanding between senior and young emerging leaders in the UK and North Africa.
Zafran holds a BA in Project Management with Human Resource Management. He has travelled throughout the Middle East and North Africa region over four years, whilst studying the Arabic language to a fluent level and Arabic Calligraphy, and working with several grassroots NGOs and charities.
