Zafran Iqbal

Zafran currently leads GPG’s Gulf Programmes, namely in Kuwait, including policy development more broadly across the Middle and East and North Africa (MENA) and the Central Asia regions. He is also leading on GPG’s Iraq portfolio, supporting the Iraqi Council of Representatives. He previously managed GPG’s project in Ukraine, supporting the Speaker and Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Prior to joining GPG, Zafran has spent over a decade in the MENA region studying the Arabic language and Arabic calligraphy, whilst working with several grassroots NGOs and charities. He spent four years managing the British Council’s UK and North Africa Relations based in Tunisia. After which he led on the first ever parliamentary inquiry by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the British Council, examining the role of soft power interventions towards ‘Building Young People’s Resilience to Violent Extremism in the Middle East and North Africa’.
