Zafran Iqbal

Zafran’s main focus is on GPG’s projects and policy development in the Middle and East and North Africa region. He currently leads GPG’s Iraq portfolio, supporting the Iraqi Council of Representatives. He previously managed GPG’s project in Ukraine, supporting the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Prior to joining GPG, Zafran led on the first ever parliamentary inquiry launched by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the British Council, examining the role of soft power interventions towards ‘Building Young People’s Resilience to Violent Extremism in the Middle East and North Africa’.  Zafran also spent four years in the MENA region with the British Council, mostly in Tunisia, managing its UK and North Africa Relations.

Zafran holds a BA in Project Management with Human Resource Management. He has travelled extensively throughout MENA, studying the Arabic language and Arabic calligraphy, whilst working with several grassroots NGOs and charities.
